The local casino scene

I don't go to my local casino too much. Back in October on my birthday I took advantage of the birthday free meal and dropped in. I stopped by the poker room to have a look around.

The last time I was in the poker room at the casino was December 2005. There's been some changes since then. In 2005 there were around 6 tables out on the main floor next to the bar. Today there is a nice separate spacious poker room with around 10 tables. They could add more tables if necessary for a big tournament or something.

The cash games have changed since late 2005. This was a big surprise to me. In 2005 the game was $5/$10 and $10/$20 limit hold'em. On Monday and Tuesday there was a $2/$4 LHE game available.

Today the cash games are all no limit. $1/$2 and $2/$4 no limit hold'em. The only limit game around is the occasional $15/$30 game that doesn't always get off the ground.

So if I want to play at the casino then I'll have to play NL cash. And I do want to play live. I heard it's pretty beatable. Up until now having bankroll to sit down has been the challenge. It's still a challenge but there's a chance I'll get an opportunity to play there sometime next year.

So I've now switched over to no limit as my online cash game. I only play $5 NL due to inexperience, bankroll and I'm trying to learn to multi table. It's been swingy through around 2000 hands in. I dropped 2 buyins at the start, then I was up three, now I'm back to around even. The level is beatable but I'm probably not playing really well. If I get an OK run going I'll plan to move up and see how it goes.
